आज २३ जून, आंतरराष्ट्रीय महिला अभियंता दिन. हा दिवस महिलांना अभियांत्रिकी क्षेत्रात यावे म्हणून प्रोत्साहन देण्यासाठी आहे.
Google वर अभियांत्रिकीमधील महिला याबद्दल शोधल्यावर. बऱ्याच प्रमाणात सांख्यिकीय (statistical) माहिती मिळाली. म्हणून उत्सुकतेने “जगातील महिलांनी लावलेले शोध” याची माहिती घेण्याचा प्रयत्न केला.
तेंव्हा असे लक्षात आले की किती तरी महत्त्वाचे शोध महिलांनी लावले आहेत आणि हे आपल्याला माहितीच नाहीत.
आपण वापरत असलेल्या कितीतरी वस्तू, उत्पादने आणि तंत्रज्ञान याची कल्पना, निर्मिती किंवा शोध हे महिलांनी लावले आहेत.
आजच्या दिवसाचे औचित्य साधून चला तर आज अशाच काही महिला संशोधकांबद्दल जाणून घेऊ.
गरज ही शोधाची जननी असे म्हणतात. त्यामुळेच कदाचित असे कितीतरी शोध, patent महिलांच्या नावावर आहेत.
कागदाची पिशवी, डीशवॉशरची , लहान आइस्क्रीम फ्रीझर, गृह सुरक्षा प्रणाली, काळ्या महिलांसाठी डिझाइन केलेले पहिले सौंदर्य उत्पादन सारखे कितीतरी शोध हे महिलांच्या नावावर आहेत.
सारा गुप्पी, यांनी अनेक उपयुक्त गॅझेट्सचा शोध लावला. त्याच बरोबर पूल आणि रेल्वेमार्ग बांधण्याची आणि उभारण्याची एका नवीन पद्धतीचे पेटंट घेतले.

“International women in engineering” day is celebrated on 23rd June to encourage women to opt for engineering. Searching for the term women in engineering gives us a lot of statistical information. I came across very interesting inventions/innovations by women while searching curiously about inventions by women.
Several items, products and technology which we use in our everyday life were developed or invented by women. There is a lot to celebrate from the various contributions made by women inventors. Let us celebrate and appreciate these women.
The reason behind all these contributions might be because "need is the mother of invention".
Women have invented many amazing things from Windshildwipers to disposable diapers, Paper bags to life rafts, small ice cream freezer to home security system, beauty products to rocket fuel. Let us thank the woman behind them!
Sara Guppi invented many gadgets. She patented ‘a new mode of constructing and erecting bridges and railroads . She was the first woman ever to patent a bridge.
Beulah Louise Henry was also called as “Lady Edison”. She has been credited with around 110 inventions and 49 patents to her name Here are some representative examples of all time inventions -
